Habit Tracking Glossary

This glossary explains common habit tracking terms in plain English so you can understand the ideas behind routines, streaks, planning and AI coaching without needing a psychology degree.

Habit

A habit is a repeated behaviour that becomes easier to perform because it has been repeated in a stable context.

Habit tracker

A habit tracker is a tool that records whether you completed a routine and often shows streaks, completion rates and trends.

Habit streak

A habit streak is the number of consecutive periods in which a habit was completed.

Daily habit

A daily habit is a behaviour you intend to repeat every day, such as stretching, reading or journalling.

Habit stacking

Habit stacking means attaching one behaviour to another existing one so the first action becomes the cue for the next. See Habit Stacking Guide.

Habit loop

The habit loop is the repeating structure of cue, routine and reward.

Cue-routine-reward

Cue-routine-reward is a plain-language model describing the trigger, the behaviour and the payoff of a habit.

Life pillars

Life pillars are broad life areas like fitness, learning or relationships. See Life Pillars.

AI coaching

AI coaching is personalised guidance generated from behaviour data rather than generic advice. See AI Habit Coach.

Behavioural analytics

Behavioural analytics is the analysis of repeated actions over time to find patterns, weak spots and trends. See Behavioural Analytics.

Morning routine

A morning routine is a repeated sequence of actions done early in the day to create stability and focus.

Night routine

A night routine is a repeated sequence done before sleep to reduce friction and support rest.

Accountability partner

An accountability partner is another person who helps you stay committed by checking progress with you.

To-do list vs habit tracker

A to-do list handles one-off tasks, while a habit tracker focuses on repeated behaviours and consistency over time. See To-Do List and Habit Tracker.

Smart reminders

Smart reminders are prompts timed to support action in the right moment. See Smart Reminders.

HealthKit

HealthKit is Apple's framework for health-related data sharing across compatible apps.

Apple Watch fitness tracking

Apple Watch fitness tracking refers to using watch-based activity and health data to support routines. See Apple Watch.

Completion rate

Completion rate is the percentage of scheduled habits or tasks that were completed in a given period.

Performance grade

A performance grade is a simplified score describing how strongly your routines performed over time.

30-day trend

A 30-day trend is a rolling view of how a habit or category changed over the last month.

Consistency score

A consistency score is a summary measure showing how reliably you repeat behaviours across time.

Open play (in habit context)

Open play in a habit context means flexible, unscripted time where behaviour is less constrained by a rigid plan.
